Abstract

The main proposal of the article is that ethnography is a call to participate from the other. It conducts a literature review about the origin of anthropology beyond its institutionalisation as a scientific discipline, considering Greek antecedents as well as middle east thinking. The essay reviews classical thinkers in anthropology and then focus on a phenomenological perspective about the foundation of ethnography, its characteristics and consequences for the discipline practice in the present, with an accent on university curriculum.
